It works great when connected to an HTPC. I used the HDMI port on my video card and the picture quality is amazing. It offers all the needed aspect ratio controls for when connecting directly to a cable box. I actually tried using it directly with the cable box (SD) and found that it was perfectly usable that way. Since it's an SD box, I had to keep the aspect ratio either on autodetect or forced 4:3 (black bars on both sides). Also, for the best picture quality, disable the energy savings option in the menu.
Setting it us was easy. I would recommend that you get someone to lift the TV when attaching the stand, but I did it alone and didn't encounter any difficulties.
As with most LCDs, volume is average. It's loud enough for the small room where it's currently located, but I would buy some standalone speakers if you are serious about movies.
